How to choose a POS

How to choose a restaurant POS: eight questions before you pay

A till gets used every day for years, so a wrong choice is expensive. These are the questions worth asking any vendor, MZPoS included, and how MZPoS answers each one.

1. Software or a bundle with hardware?

Many tills are sold as a bundle: touchscreen, printer and software together. Others, like MZPoS, are software only and run on the tablet, computer or phone you already have. Before buying hardware, ask whether the software works with yours.

2. Monthly fee or one-time licence?

Compare the total cost over three or four years, not only the first invoice. With a one-time licence, ask what you pay from the second year: updates, cloud, support. With MZPoS you can pay monthly, yearly, or a one-time licence plus an annual service from the second year; the amounts are published on the pricing page.

3. Is there a minimum term?

Ask whether you can cancel and with how much notice. With MZPoS the monthly plan renews each month until you cancel it from inside the app.

4. Does it meet the invoicing regulation?

Invoicing software in Spain must meet the regulation on invoicing systems (Royal Decree 1007/2023) and, in its VERI*FACTU mode, send records to the tax agency. The AEAT does not certify software: the producer signs a responsible declaration. Ask your vendor for it (MZPoS has signed it), and check the deadlines that apply to you with your tax adviser, because the government is revising them.

5. What happens if the internet drops?

Ask what keeps working: taking orders, payment, printing, opening and closing the till. With MZPoS each device keeps working from its saved copy and sends everything, in order, when the connection returns.

6. How do orders reach the kitchen?

By kitchen printer, kitchen screen or both. Check that the order arrives immediately and that the kitchen can mark what is ready so the floor knows.

7. Can I sell online without commission?

If you do takeaway or delivery, ask whether the till includes your own ordering shop and whether it charges a percentage per order. MZPoS takes no marketplace commission on orders from your own shop.

8. Can I see it with my menu?

Ask for a demo with your own dishes and your way of serving, not a generic presentation. With MZPoS you can write to us and we will show it to you with your own menu.

Who it is for

Useful if

  • You are opening a restaurant, bar or café
  • Your current till is falling short or reaching its end
  • You are being offered bundles and want to compare them
  • You need to get ready for VERI*FACTU

Frequently asked questions

Is an all-in-one touchscreen till better than a tablet?

It depends on space and volume. An all-in-one is sturdy at the bar; a tablet is cheaper and moves around the floor. What matters is that the software runs on what you choose: MZPoS runs on both.

How much does a restaurant POS cost?

Add up the software (subscription or licence), the hardware if you do not have it, and card payments. MZPoS costs from €39.99 a month + VAT (all prices are on the pricing page); hardware is bought separately.

Do I have to change my till because of VERI*FACTU?

If your current software does not meet the invoicing regulation, yes. Ask your vendor for its responsible declaration and check the deadlines that apply to you with your tax adviser.
